What is Runway Gen‑2?

Gen‑2 was Runway’s breakthrough text-to-video and image-to-video AI model, first launched in March 2023. It allowed users to generate short cinematic clips (up to ~4 seconds, later extended to ~16 s) from text descriptions or still images, using intuitive prompts.

Key Features: 

Text-to-Video: Type a description like “rainy city skyline at dusk”; Gen‑2 creates a short video.

Image + Text-to-Video: Use an image reference plus prompt to animate your content while maintaining style/composition.

Image-to-Video: Animate a static image into motion without needing text input.

Director Mode & Motion Brush: Simulate camera effects (zoom, pan, face movement, LUT color grade) using motion brushes.
